The Key To Making Your Candles Last Longer?

There’s nothing better than lighting a fresh candle and letting your space fill with a cozy glow and inviting fragrance. But if you’ve ever had a candle burn down too quickly, tunnel through the middle, or lose its scent before its time—you’re not alone.
The good news? With just a few simple candle care tips, you can make every burn last longer and enjoy your favourite candles to the fullest.
1. Trim the Wick Before Every Burn
This little step makes a big difference! Keep your wick trimmed to about ¼ inch before you light your candle. A short wick helps your candle burn evenly, prevents smoky residue, and extends its overall life. You can use a wick trimmer, nail clippers, or even scissors—just make sure no loose pieces fall into the wax.

2. Let the First Burn Set the Stage
The very first time you light a candle is the most important. Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the container before blowing it out (usually 2–3 hours). This prevents tunneling—a common problem where the candle burns straight down the middle and leaves wasted wax along the sides.
3. Protect Your Flame from Drafts
Candles burn best in calm, draft-free spaces. Breezes from open windows, fans, or air vents can cause the flame to flicker, which makes your candle burn unevenly and much faster. Place your candle on a stable, heat-safe surface away from drafts for a smooth, steady burn.
4. Don’t Burn Too Long
It’s tempting to keep your candle glowing all day, but burning for more than 3–4 hours at a time can overheat the container and shorten the candle’s lifespan. After a few hours, snuff it out, let it cool, and trim the wick before lighting again.
5. Store Candles the Right Way
Candles don’t love heat or direct sunlight. Store them in a cool, dry place to protect both the wax and fragrance. This will keep your candle’s scent rich and lasting until the very last burn.
✨ Bonus Tip: Use a candle snuffer instead of blowing your candle out—it’s a smoke-free, elegant way to extinguish the flame while protecting the wick.
